Coordinating Hands and Eyes to Prevent Dementia: A Contest of Speed and Focus

—Hsinchu Prison Hosts "Speed Stacking" Fun Competition—

On the morning of January 22, 2026, Hsinchu Prison held its "2026 Speed Stacking Fun Competition" in the main auditorium as part of its recreational programming. The event saw a strong turnout, with 24 teams registered for the General Category (Group) and 47 participants for the Senior Category (Individual).

Warden Tseng Wen-chin of Hsinchu Prison places great importance on recreational activities within the facility. In addition to the general competition, he specifically directed the inclusion of the Senior Individual Category. The goal is to facilitate physical and mental relaxation for elderly inmates through interactive activities. By providing supportive services within the correctional system, the prison aims to promote healthy aging and help seniors maintain the highest possible level of independence in their daily lives.

Meanwhile, inmates in the General Category utilized their spare time outside of work hours to practice. Embodying the "spirit of a master craftsman" (Shokunin spirit), they repeatedly performed simple sequences until the movements were internalized as fine motor muscle memory, all in an effort to achieve their best personal results.

This competition brought both joy and inspiration to the inmates. It served as a reminder that much like practicing cup stacking, focusing on small tasks and persisting in small acts of kindness or good habits can lead to great achievements. Even the smallest dreams can be realized through such dedication.
