Joyful Steeds Leap to Welcome the New Year; Sending Love and Peace Across the Miles
—Hsinchu Prison Hosts "Lunar New Year Phone Calls to Parents" for Inmates—
As the Lunar New Year approaches, Hsinchu Prison of the Agency of Corrections, Ministry of Justice, held the "Lunar New Year Phone Calls to Parents" activity on January 29. This initiative allows every inmate to express their longing and affection to their beloved parents and relatives. By strengthening these familial bonds, the prison hopes inmates will feel more supported, enabling them to serve their sentences with peace of mind and transform this emotional support into a driving force for personal growth and change.
Warden Tseng Wen-Chin of Hsinchu Prison places great emphasis on and actively promotes these "filial piety" phone activities, recognizing that family is the most crucial anchor on an inmate's journey toward reintegration into society. On the day of the event, inmates dialed their homes with joyful hearts. The moment the calls connected, years of longing were poured into conversation, instantly filling the venue with an atmosphere of happiness. Inmates spoke warmly with their families, exchanging New Year greetings and wishes for safety. Although serving a sentence prevents them from being physically present, this activity successfully shortened the emotional distance between the inmates and their loved ones.
Hsinchu Prison extends special thanks to the Chunghwa Telecom North City Branch (Hsinchu Office) for their enthusiastic support of public welfare. They generously provided 50 telephone lines for the entire prison population to use free of charge. A total of 2,055 inmates participated in the event, which concluded successfully at 4:00 PM.
